College to Honor Fidelity COO
at De La Salle Dinner

Robert L. Reynolds

The 2007 De la Salle Medal will be presented on Jan. 24 to Robert L. Reynolds, vice chairman and chief operating officer of Fidelity Investments, at New York City's Cipriani. The De La Salle Medal was established in 1951 in honor of St. John Baptist de La Salle, who founded the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. The medal has been conferred annualy b the Manhattan College board of trustees to honor executives who exemplify the principles of excellence and corporate leadership. Reynolds is the 31st recipient of the medal and adds his name to an impressive list of awardees that includes Con Edison Chairman and Chief Executive Eugene R. McGrath '63 and former Mayor of New York City Rudolph W. Giuliani '65. The De La Salle Medal dinner and ceremony remains the College's top fundraising event, benefiting academic and co-curricular programs, scholarship assistance and library resources. Read

 

Chemical Engineering Students Compete in Chem-E-Car Competition

The Manhattan College American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) student Chapter participated in the Chem-E-Car competition during the National AIChE Meeting in San Francisco, Calif. from Nov. 11-13. Read

College Completes Private Internet Network

Manhattan College recently completed the building of a private internet network connecting multiple locations on campus and extending into the New York metro market. Read

Chasek Awarded Prestigious
Fulbright Scholar Grant

Dr. Pamela Chasek, associate professor of government and director of the international studies program, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture and research at Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand during the upcoming spring academic semester. Read

 

Faculty and Staff Accomplishments

Dr. Nada Assaf-Anid, associate professor of chemical engineering, attended the National Annual American Institute for Chemical Engineers (AIChE) meeting in San Francisco and chaired the Department Heads Forum that drew nearly 70 chairs from around the country. Read

Offers New Activities

Looking for new ways to reunite with former classmates? The alumni office has enhanced its selection of activities for female graduates with the Manhattan Alumnae Club. Alumnae from the classes of 1978-2006 come together to network, renew old friendships and share unique experiences. Some of the group’s successful activities have included a spa day and chef party. Two To Be Inducted into
the Athletic Hall of Fame

The Manhattan Athletic Hall of Fame will welcome eight outstanding athletes and two men’s basketball teams for their record-setting seasons. The inductees are Gerard Houlihan ’79, crew; Eric (Ricky) Marsh ’77, basketball; John Ogle ’51, track and field; Wallace Pina ’53, track; Peter Runge ’90, basketball; Kathy Solano, basketball coach; Gina Somma ’96, basketball; Joseph (Jo Jo) Walters ’79, basketball; and the men’s basketball teams of 1956-57 and 1994-95.Read

A League of Their Own

In 1957, the Manhattan College baseball team played in an NCAA regional game against eventual national runner-up Penn State at the Polo Grounds. The team has had its fair share of ups and downs since then, but the faith that loyal Jasper fans have provided was paid back in 2006, as the Jasper Nine won the program’s first MAAC Championship and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the first time in 49 years. Men's Hoops Has New Coach

In April, Barry Rohrssen was named the 22nd head coach in Manhattan men’s basketball history. Rohrssen jumped right into his new role by hitting the recruiting trail and putting together a competitive, yet home-game-friendly 2006-07 schedule. Read
