Engineering Students Help To Build Playground in Yonkers

Ten civil and environmental engineering students spent two days in September helping to build a playground in Trevor Park in Yonkers, N.Y. The park was severely damaged by a storm last year and thanks to the City of Yonkers receiving a grant from KaBoom!, a nonprofit organization that builds playgrounds around the United States, Manhattan students were able to participate in the cause.

“We had a chance to work with professionals in the construction field, who helped us to gain valuable hands-on work experience that we would not necessarily obtain in an internship,” said Jenna Puliafico, a senior and civil engineering major. “Some of the work experience that we performed was excavating, cutting wood, assembling trash can holders, benches, and playground equipment, and mixing and pouring concrete."
