Introduction to the Internet
The Internet is a global network comprised of many smaller networks that connect computers together. The technology behind the internet consists of many protocols that handle different functions.
Some examples of internet protocols are:
- HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol): Used to publish and retrieve web pages through the World Wide Web
- SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol): The major protocol for sending and receiving email
- FTP (File Transfer Protocol): Used to transfer data or files from one computer to another
- BitTorrent: A peer-to-peer sharing protocol that allows a computer to download a file from multiple computers at the same time
